Summer

To our Grand Island Soccer Club Community,

It is with complete disappointment that we are sharing this message to the families of Grand Island. The board of the Grand Island Soccer Club has made the unfortunate decision to cancel the traditional Summer Recreational soccer season. To say it was one of the hardest decisions in our time as a board would be an understatement. We all want to get back to normal, and we especially want our kids to get back to sports and other activities.

Western New York began its reopening May 19 with “Phase 1.” Youth sports are classified under “Phase 4.” While there is a timeline in place to transition between phases, there are too many variables to confirm a definitive date as to when we will reach Phase 4. Another challenge is attempting to forecast what conditions we might be operating under once we move into that phase. Our Club is governed by and insured under New York State West and US Soccer, and they have extended the suspension of play until the end of June at the earliest.

Despite having to cancel the formal season, the board IS COMMITTED to putting together some type of programming (whether that be late summer or fall) for the kids. Once we have clarity around timing, defined safety protocols, and best practices, we will provide further details and reopen registration. The safety of our participants is paramount and we are not prepared to move forward until that is ensured. In the meantime, if you already registered for the program, we will begin the process of issuing refunds. You should receive your refund to the same credit card you used to register. Please allow a couple of weeks for the refunds to be processed.

We appreciate everyone’s support during this difficult time. Stay safe. Stay positive.

Regards,

Grand Island Soccer Club

The goal of our summer recreational program is to develop skills so players can ultimately play to the best of their ability. We focus on developing skills, building positive attitudes, and creating a passion for the game. Additionally, players ages 8 and older will play formal games against other teams within the Grand Island Soccer Club summer program.

Sportsmanship and respect for other players and coaches are staples of the Grand Island Soccer Club experience.

We welcome players of all ability levels who are looking for a soccer environment that offers training and flexibility with family schedules.
